If there's one thing that comes close to outweighing the amount of yarn in our house, it's books. No one really needs 3 almost complete (almost matching; the rabbits ate some so don't ask) dog-eared sets of Harry Potter books but then no one really needs all 48 shades of Paintbox aran yarn (yes and pretty much the same in DK).... but of course we do need these things, because we love them, because we're all just stories in the end.
